HERS Breast Cancer Foundation ("HERS") is a Bay Area nonprofit organization committed to empowering individuals healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical products and support, regardless of financial status. HERS was established in 1998 and operates program locations in Fremont and San Leandro. Our team provides a private, supportive, and compassionate environment where patients receive assessment and fitting services for products such as pocketed bras, breast prostheses, lymphedema compression garments, and wigs.


The Foundation's goal is to restore our patients' sense of "HERS" --  Hope, Empowerment, Renewal, and Support. Our products and services help breast cancer patients heal physically and emotionally during one of the most challenging times of their lives. About this Role


The Breast Care Specialist (BCS) is a full-time in-person role at our Fremont location. In this position, you will provide personalized fitting services for breast cancer survivors for prescribed products such pocketed bras, breast prostheses, and lymphedema compression garments, while delivering compassionate and professional patient care. Additional responsibilities include patient charting and product ordering.


No prior experience as a mastectomy fitter is necessary; the Foundation will train you! In addition, HERS will cover your coursework and test fees to obtain your mastectomy fitter certification ("CFm") as well as your certification renewal fees. HERS Breast Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization, Federal Tax ID 94-3309906 and is accredited by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics. Our work is made possible by private donations, year-round fundraising, grants, and medical insurance reimbursements. Our work is also generously support by dedicated volunteers.


Once you obtain your mastectomy fitter certification, your hourly wage is increased to $25/hour.


Qualifications:


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide empathetic, respectful, and effective support to patients during their care.
  • Experience in a medical/clinic setting with a focus on understanding and supporting breast cancer survivors.
  • Customer service expertise to deliver high-quality patient experiences in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility, organizational skills, and attention to detail regarding patient products and accurate charting.
  • Commitment to the mission of supporting individuals healing from breast cancer.
  • Must undergo a background check.
  • Must be experienced with Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in customer/patient services.
  • Ability to accurately type a minimum of 40 wpm.
